Trimethyl borate Chemical properties:

Moisture-sensitive liquid, fumes in the air. The melting point is -29.3°C, the boiling point is 68-69°C, and it forms an azeotropic mixture with methanol. The azeotrope point is 55°C, the relative density (20/4) is 0.920, and the refractive index (nD25) is 1.3543 (1.3548). Very easy to burn, flash point -1℃. Miscible with ether, methanol, tetrahydrofuran, isopropylamine and hexane. It is stable in anhydrous state and decomposes into methanol and boric acid when it meets water.


Trimethyl borate uses:

1. Intermediate of potassium (sodium) borohydride. Vulcanizing agent, wood preservative, catalyst, gelling agent, heat stabilizer, hydrogen flame extinguishing agent, also used in cotton flame retardant treatment and preparation of activated silica, and as a reagent for gas chromatography analysis of carbohydrate derivatives.

2. Used as a doping source for semiconductors, and also for the preparation of high-purity boron.

3. This product is used as a solvent for paraffin, resin, and petroleum, as a catalyst for ketones. It is also used as a solvent, dehydrogenation agent, insecticide, and organic synthesis and semiconductor boron diffusor for electronic industry and other purposes.

4. Analyze derivative reagents and solvents by gas chromatography.

5. Catalyst for the manufacture of ketones. Semiconductor boron diffusion source.
